In Model Me Going Places, the user is presented with many opportunities to develop different skills through learning about how to act behaviorally in different daily scenarios. For children with Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Nonverbal Learning Disorder, or other developmental disorders, this app is a great way to not only work on social and life skills, but it also allows for honing other skills such as reading and physical/motor skills.
Reading
The app goes through different screens with pictures that show different scenarios of daily life such as getting a haircut or going grocery shopping. Along with a narrator describing each picture, each picture shows the words along the bottom. This can help students with reading the small sentences and since the sound can be turned off, the students can use the pictures to help them figure out what the words are if they are unsure.
Physical/Motor/Sensory
Each daily experience is given its own icon on the menu screen. The student can touch any of these to begin the slide show of pictures. On each slide there is an icon on each side the indicates going to the next slide or going back to the previous slide. These icons/buttons can help students with their motor/sensory skills.
Sounds
There is music and a narration that goes along with each slide. The sounds may be altered in that the volume is adjustable.
